Dr Ceri Thomas gave an outstanding talk on Saturday evening about his late father, the sculptor Robert ‘Bob’ Thomas. Robert was very much part of the history of Wales and Barry and was the sculptor of the well-known pieces, Aneurin Bevan in Cardiff and the Miner’s Family in the Valleys among many others. We were very grateful for the revealing and intimate account of the artist’s life and work from one who was there.
We were also treated to the showing of a film documentary made in 1999. Joanna Hughes, the film’s director, was present and spoke about the Thomas family and the making of the film. Many of those present had connections with Bob Thomas and his family. It was especially pleasing to have such a personal narrative.
